A very funky song about the uses of horsetails - a fascinating and widely misunderstood plant. Loaded with silica, horsetails, when safely injested, can soothe and strengthen connective tissues in the body. (Many an elderly friend of mine drinks horsetail tea to ease creaky joints.) Hair, nails, skin, and even teeth show health improvements as well - apparently regular tea consumption can heal minor cavities!
DO NOT PICK OLD HORESTAILS FOR CONSUMPTION, young horsetails can be identified by needles or "arms" reaching skyward, similar to a pine tree seedling. As the summer wears on - the arms or needles will start to droop toward the ground - this is a sign not to harvest for medicinal uses. For scrubbing or polishing (including teeth) - any old horsetail will do.
To make tea - simmer one or two small plants for 10 minutes, let cool, and drink.. Strong tea makes a good addition to bathwater - soothes a sore bod (especially feet).
